Role Description

The Risk & Compliance Officer will provide assurance to the board of directors and also the registrar of Credit Unions and Central Bank that the credit union is operating within the letter and the spirit of the legal and regulatory framework laid down within State (and EU) law and in particular the regulatory and supervisory framework required by the regulators and other statutory and professional bodies. The purpose of risk management is to safeguard the credit union, its members, reputation, assets and the interests of stakeholders by identifying, assessing and managing all threats to the achievement of its business objectives

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITES

Risk Management

  1. Planning, designing and implementing an overall risk management process for the credit union, including the development and implementation of a risk management policy setting out its approach to risk and its approach to risk management

 

Compliance

  1. To devise and implement a compliance system to ensure that all elements of all relevant products and services offered to members by the credit union are being carried out in accordance with relevant laws, regulations, policies and procedures, rules and Codes of Practice, and in line with industry best practice.

Leadership & Management

  1. Act as a member of the Management Team. Attend and contribute to Management Team meetings, general staff meetings and if necessary Board and or committee meetings.
  2. Participate and lead the performance management system and risk management & compliance through the credit union.
  3. Contributing to the development of a culture consistent with the Credit Union’s Values and creating a great place to work.
  4. Keeping professionally competent and attend training programs or workshops as required.
  5. Ensure that the highest standards of confidentiality are maintained.
  6. Supporting the Manager/ Board in the implementation of board policies and directives.
  7. Undertaking any other reasonable request by the CEO/Manager or Board of Directors.

 

Qualifications relevant to the role:

  • Professional 3rd level qualifications relevant to the role
  • A minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience in financial services working in a compliance, risk management or internal audit role in an entity regulated by the Central Bank of Ireland.
  • Knowledge and understanding of regulatory environment governing credit unions
  • Strong leadership qualities, interpersonal skills, building key relationships
  • Strong organisational and time management skills. 
  • Computer literacy and excellent analytical and report writing skills.

 

Experience in the credit union sector is desirable but not essential.  Relevant financial services experience would include working in a compliance or risk management role in a credit union, bank, building society, finance company, insurance company, life assurance / pensions companies, intermediary or other entity regulated by the Central Bank

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications & relevant experience.

This position is a controlled function (CUCF-2) within the Central Bank of Ireland’s Fitness and Probity regime.
