Head of Credit - Cobh Credit Union

Cobh Credit Union is now inviting applications for the following position:

Head of Credit (Ref CCU 2017)

Principle responsibilities of the role:

The Head of Credit will report to the Manager and the Board and will be primarily responsible for the efficient operation of the lending function, ensuring progressive implementation of all Credit policies and procedures, legislative and regulatory requirements in order to maximise responsible loans granted. He/She will also be responsible for the business development strategy and delivery of income targets, in line with the strategic business goals, taking into account the requirement to achieve and maintain excellence in servicing the needs of the Board and members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the lending function ensuring the balance of both quality and quantity of loans
  • Evaluate loan applications and documentation through effective underwriting, confirming credit worthiness, ability to repay and any additional requirements to improve loan applications
  • Responsible for the roll-out of new lending products, ensuring proper processes are implemented correctly and that best practices are adhered to
  • Daily management of the lending application pipeline, ensuring applications are approved as soon as possible, and referred to credit committee if and when required in a highly efficient manner
  • Develop the Credit capability within the Credit Union and ongoing evaluation of loan system suitability
  • Monitor lending take-up and present to the board and relevant committees all necessary reports, applications and any other documentation that may be required
  • Develop and promote a referral culture throughout the organisation, monitoring KPIs to ensure targets are met
  • Overall responsibility of the Marketing function for the Credit Union and all other initiatives
  • Provide support in order to ensure the successful implementation of targets, goals and objectives from the strategic plan

The successful candidate should have the following:

  • Minimum 5+ years’ experience in a results driven, lending and business development role is essential
  • Relevant industry qualifications and/or third level business degree
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to adapt to new situations
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Exceptional time management skills and ability to prioritise
  • Experience of working in a Credit Union or Financial Services provider is desirable
  • Excellent IT skills, with strong data base analysis and Microsoft Office capabilities, is essential
